The pregnancy so far . . .

From my perspective, and the many horror stories we’ve heard, Dalia seems to have had a pretty painless pregnancy. At least until this last month. The last few weeks especially have been taxing for us both. Dalia is struggling with her various aches and pains, as well as having a difficult time getting comfortable in any position. (The baby typically seems to have the feet on her bladder, and the hands pushing on her lungs.) The hardest part for me is feeling so helpless when it comes to easing her suffering. I’ve always hated that feeling.

For those of you not keeping count, we’re down to three weeks until B-Day. Though Dalia is considered to be “full term” now, which means the baby could really come any day now. I know she’ll be thrilled to have her body back to relative normality.

Sadly, that doesn’t mean thing aren’t going to get better anytime soon! We’ve attended a breastfeeding class and we’re both horrified at what’s to come. She’s basically swapping one pain for another.

Like most men in my position, I definately have a new-found respect for my wife, and women in general. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to spend over a year in discomfort and misery!

Obviously it will all be worth while every time we gaze into the eyes of this little miracle we’ve created . . . and he or she throws up all over us.

Breastfeeding is cool. The kid will love it. Yeah, it’s a bit of a mess at first, but mutually rewarding. Hang in there—the good part is on its way!
