A beginners guide to Jack

Well, the days of counting Jack’s age in weeks is officially over, because as of tomorrow, he’s a whole MONTH old.

Here’s what we’ve learned about our son since his birth oh so many moons ago (OK, it hasn’t been that many, but it sure feels like a lot).

*He’s inherited his Mom’s love of FOOD! FOOD! ... More FOOD!

*Binky heals almost all wounds. But it’s still no substitute for FOOD.

*He’s grown to love his baths. It even takes his mind off of FOOD, if only for a moment.

*He loves to be the center of attention, almost as much as he loves FOOD.

*He’s a fighter, in the best of ways. Especially when it comes to FOOD.

*He loves to wake up and play in the middle of the night, just when Mom think she might sneak in another hour of sleep. But she can usually lull him back to sleep with FOOD. Usually, but not always.

*He breaks wind almost as much as his Dad. Must be all that FOOD.

*He now weighs as much as most babies twice his age.

Stumbled across this blog through WDT and it made me laugh. We have a one year old (jan 30th), our first, also called Jack. Think once you name a kid ‘Jack’ it triggers the food loving gene into action. The first year seems like a lifetime, in a good way; can’t imagine life without him. After food comes music, anything with plenty of bass and a good riff, and he’s hooked on 60s and 70s stuff cos that’s what his dad listens to. At six months we put him to bed at 7.30pm and he slept through till 7am, so it does get easier. Only now we’ve settled into a routine and are beginning to feel human again.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Especially in regards to sleep. While I wouldn’t trade any of this for the world, the eventual possibility of five (oh hell, even four) hours of uninterupted sleep helps get me through some of those 3am feedings.
