Dear Jack: Dad's turn I

Though I’m content to let your mother write most of these (she’s got the mad writing skillz), I figured I’d chime in every now and again to give you my take on your up-bringing.

The last few weeks we’ve had to make some major adjustments. Why? Your mother was tired out. I don’t mean the kind of tired you experience sitting through a conference on life insurance. I’m talking about the kind of tired you’d be after dragging an elephant across a football field. Or in this case, waking up every few hours to feed you every night.

I realize you probably weren’t thrilled with the changes we had to make, but know that it was for your mother’s benefit, and ultimately yours as well. (I’m sure you wouldn’t have appreciated mom passing out while holding you.) Anyhow, all in all you’re taking it well. You can now go as long as six hours plus at night, and have even made it to eight. We’re very proud of you!

That aside, I’ve been having a blast watching you grow up. The time I get home from work until you go to bed is my favorite part of the day. Partly because I know your mother is grateful for some time to herself, but mostly because of the big smile you give me when I pick you up. We have all kinds of fun together: We stare at one other making silly faces, I put you up on my knees (when my feet are up on the coffee table) so you can look around the room (you especially love this), or we just kick it and watch TV together. This last one is something you’ve reserved especially for me (I get you hate doing it with anyone else).

Needless to say I’m a very proud father. And I know you will only continue to amaze me in the days to come.
