Customer service, R.I.P.

Ok, this isn’t baby related but I’m gonna bitch about it anyway.

Our bank has all our regular accounts, and all our credit cards hooked together in their online system. (Makes it very convenient to pay by transfering funds over, blah blah blah.) Recently I accidently overpaid a credit card by $8. Simple mistake, but regardless the bank now owes me that $8 back.

For whatever reason, I think to myself, the bank owes me that money anyway, so why don’t I just make the whole process easier and transfer that $8 from my card, to my checking account. Problem solved. Well a few days later I see a $10 cash advance charge has been added to my credit card account. I figure that the automated system doesn’t understand that I’m overpaid, and it charges me $10. Sucks, but nothing that can’t be resolved with an email to my bank explaining what happened.

The bank fixed the problem. But that’s not what ticked me off so much. Rather than just say something along the lines of “It’s a simple mistake, no problem, we’ll waive the $10 fee.”, I get a lecture about how I agreed to a contract by clicking the ok button and blah blah blah blah blah blah. But, this one time, they’ll make an exception and waive the fee.

Does this seem like good customer service to anyone? Yes, I made an assumption and it was incorrect. But they owed me that money! I overpaid! I guess they felt it was better to be condescending and treat me like a complete moron, than to just waive it and keep their yap shut.

They’re lucky there was no reply option to that message cuz I’d have torn them a new a-hole.
